AUSTRALIA:
Australian education standards ranks amongst the highest
in the world. This is the result of the close control
that the federal and/or state government applies to
Australian institutions at all levels. It comprises
twelve national qualifications issued in the secondary
school sector, in the vocational education and training
(TAFE and registered private providers) and in the higher
education sector (Mainly universities).
Australia’s close supervision of standards at
all levels of education is effective in maintaining
standards as well as re-assessment and change to curriculum
content.
Australian schools, colleges and universities enjoy
an international reputation for excellence. Academic
staffs in universities are recruited internationally,
and graduates from Australian colleges and universities
are employed all over the world. All teachers in Australian
high schools and colleges are university qualified.
The Australian education system is broadly divided into
the university, vocational, school and English language
sectors.
You will find you can study almost anything in Australia
with its variety of courses. There are more than 600,000
students studying in Australian universities and over

Australian Education Sys tem :
Australian Education System comprises of three sectors:
Primary education (Kindergarten - years 6), secondary
Education (years 7-12) and Tertiary Education. Tertiary
Education itself has two components: Universities(Higher
Education) and TAFE (Technical and further Education)
.
Work Permit:
Students are limited to 20 hours work per week while
classes are in session, they may work full time during
holiday periods. Work rights are intended only to
supplement a student’s income and should not
be viewed as the sole source of funds.
Students intended to apply for student visas should
have IELTS score. For TAFE, students should have 5.5
IELTS band for undergraduate and 6.0 bands for Master’s.

Living Expenses :
Depending where you are studying, and Personal choice,
it is estimated that living expenses for an international
student are approximately AUD $ 10,000 to AUD $ 12,000
per year, concerning such things as food, accommodation,
travel, entertainment and clothing. Depending upon
the course of study the fee varies from AUD §
8000 to AUD $ 21,000
English Language Proficiency :
International applicants for all degree programs
are required to have acceptable level of competence
in writing, reading, and understanding English. Student
wishing to undertake undergraduate programs and postgraduate
coursework and research programs are required to have
the equivalent of an overall IELTS band score of 6
(with an individual band score of less than 6).
Academic Year :
Generally two intakes per year. Semester I commencing
in February is the main student intake. Semester II,
commencing in July, is a much smaller intake, For
Business colleges there are 4 intakes per years i.e.,
after every 3 months.
Employment :
Students are permitted to work 20 hours per week
during term time, and full time during the vacation
period. Students who wish to work part-time in Australia
during the course of their studies, are required to
apply to the Department of immigration and Multicultural
Affairs for permission to work (cost $50). after arrival
and commencement of full-time studies . Many international
students work part-time in the retail, tourism and
hospitality industries
Working In Australia:
International students at the higher education level
can work on a casual basis (upto 20 hours a week)
during course time and full time during vacation periods,
provided this does not interfere with their study
program.
Universities and TAFE institutions have a Careers
Office, which regularly posts employment vacancies.
Before gaining paid part-time employment, you must
lodge an application for a ‘student visa with
permission to work’ with the Department of Immigration,
Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs (DIMIA). You
can only do this once you have started your course
in Australia.
Visa Procedures
Firstly, you need to apply for a student visa. To
meet with a number of visa conditions for attendance
and academic performance which come be granted a student
visa you must complete a visa application form, lodge
it with the evidence required, pay the application
charge and satisfy the student visa requirements.
You can be granted a student visa only if you intend
to study a registered course on a full-time basis
and meet with a number of visa conditions after you
have entered Australia.
To be granted a student visa you must satisfy the
visa requirements and into effect after your entry
in Australia. Your Student Visa will list the conditions
that apply specifically to you. It is important to
meet with your visa conditions to avoid visa cancellation.
